Understanding UX Today<\/strong><\/h2>\n

UX design, or user experience design, is all about creating applications, SaaS platforms, and interfaces that truly meet users\u2019 needs\u2026 and not just making things pretty<\/strong> (although, let\u2019s be honest, that does matter a little ;)).<\/p>\n

My work is about understanding what users are trying to achieve, the obstacles that frustrate them, and the levers we can use to create smooth, simple, and enjoyable journeys<\/strong>.
Because let\u2019s face it, nobody wants to feel held hostage by an endless form.<\/p>\n

UX vs UI: Two Complementary Disciplines<\/strong><\/h2>\n

People often confuse UX and UI, but their roles are quite different:<\/p>\n

    \n
  • \n

    UX (User Experience)<\/strong>: understanding user needs, structuring user flows, and optimizing processes.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

  • \n

    UI (User Interface):<\/strong>\u00a0bringing those flows to life through visual choices<\/strong>: colours, typography, hierarchy, and micro-interactions.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    In SaaS and complex applications, UX and UI work hand in hand: one designs the architecture of the experience, the other makes it visible and usable. Kind of like a dance duo\u2026 except, sometimes, yes, we do step on each other\u2019s toes! \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n

    Beyond Websites: UX Touches Platforms<\/strong><\/h2>\n

    Today, UX goes far beyond websites. We work on:<\/p>\n

      \n
    • \n

      SaaS applications (CRM, management platforms, analytics tools).<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

    • \n

      Native and hybrid mobile apps.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

    • \n

      Complex dashboards for both administrators and end-users.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

    • \n

      Multi-device experiences: from web to mobile, integrating APIs and third-party modules.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

      In short, if it has a screen, buttons, menus, and users\u2026 chances are, someone needs UX.<\/p>\n

      The Role of a UX Designer in Complex Applications<\/strong><\/h2>\n

      In the past, I\u2019ve worked on showcase websites, e-commerce stores, and member spaces. But today, my day-to-day focuses on SaaS platforms, transactional web applications, and multi-user dashboards.
      When it comes to features, we\u2019re a long way from a simple landing page:<\/p>\n

        \n
      • \n

        Managing nested workflows: validation, approvals, payments, and data synchronization.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

      • \n

        Designing for diverse user profiles: customers, administrators, partners, and internal teams.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

      • \n

        Optimizing hierarchical navigation in dense, content-rich environments.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

      • \n

        Reducing friction in critical processes: onboarding, transactions, and compliance checks.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

        In short: I translate complex journeys into simple experiences. Because if a user needs to click ten times to complete a single action\u2026 that\u2019s already nine clicks too many.<\/p>\n

        How to Improve a SaaS Experience<\/strong><\/h2>\n

        Take the example of a multi-stakeholder platform, like the ones I often work on:<\/p>\n

          \n
        • \n

          Before the experience:\u00a0understanding needs, usage scenarios, and business objectives.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

        • \n

          During the experience:\u00a0identifying friction points, testing prototypes, optimizing user flows.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

        • \n

          After the experience:\u00a0measuring results, analyzing behaviours, iterating to improve retention and adoption.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

          Each step relies on a solid UX methodology: user research, co-design workshops, prototyping, usability testing, and data analysis.<\/p>\n

          And no, asking your colleague if the button looks “nice” does not count as usability testing ;).
          That said, I love working in pairs whenever possible! When tackling complex business processes, two brains are definitely better than one.<\/p>\n

          In a Nutshell<\/strong><\/h2>\n

          UX design isn\u2019t just about making an interface look “pleasant”. It\u2019s about understanding behaviours, optimizing processes, and designing experiences that create real value.<\/p>\n

          In practice, we ask ourselves questions like:<\/p>\n

            Why aren\u2019t users activating their accounts?<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

          • \n

            Why are they abandoning their carts or transactions?<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

          • \n

            Which features are causing the most confusion?<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

          • \n

            How can we simplify critical processes without losing control?<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

            A well-designed UX is an investment: it builds trust, boosts conversion, improves retention\u2026 and yes, it even improves your mood while using the platform ;).<\/p>\n
